Camphill
Camphill’s earliest beginnings were in Nazi oppressed Austria, where Konig and a group of young friends and students lived in the early and mid 1930’s. By the late thirties they had to flee Austria and were for a time scattered across the world. In 1939 a tentative beginning was made at Kirkton of Skene, and in 1940 the property at Camphill House and Estate was moved into and the work of what was to become the Camphill Movement had its name. It took some time for the group to regather, coming from internment on the Isle of Man and from other parts of the world.
The Camphill Movement began almost seventy years ago and has now expanded into over 100 communities in 23 countries. The communities are very varied, some rural, some urban, large and small, working with children, adolescents and adults with special needs. Camphill communities also concern themselves with the needs of time, of the earth and of all aspects of the Image of Man.
